CUSICK MORGAN MOTORSPORTS BOUNCES BACK WITH STRONG FINISH AT MID-OHIO

Cusick Morgan Motorsports returned to action over the Fourth of July weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for another INDY NXT by Firestone doubleheader, overcoming a difficult opening race before rebounding with a strong performance in Race Two highlighted by JM Correa’s fourth-place finish.

Qualifying for Race One saw Juan Manuel Correa secure the 11th starting position while teammate Nicolas Stati lined up 20th on the grid. The opening race of the weekend proved to be a challenging one for the Cusick Morgan Motorsports drivers with the team concluding the first wheel-to-wheel action with Correa and Stati finishing 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Stati encountered a gear position sensor failure that saw his race compromised while Correa found himself off track in the final set of corners late in the race causing a caution. Despite the setback, the team quickly shifted its focus toward Sunday’s second race, determined to capitalize on the pace shown throughout the weekend.

The team responded well on Sunday. Correa qualified ninth for Race Two and immediately put himself in contention with an impressive opening lap, gaining multiple positions before settling into the lead group. He continued to showcase strong pace throughout the race, ultimately crossing the finish line in the fourth position, matching his best result of the 2026 season and finishing just shy of the podium.

Stati started 18th and produced a clean and consistent drive, advancing one position to finish 17th while continuing to build experience in his rookie INDY NXT campaign. Additionally, Stati was able to show pace that was comparable to the drivers running between ninth and 13th, showing promise for future trips to the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

“Saturday certainly wasn’t the result we were looking for, but I was proud of how everyone responded,” expressed Billy Morgan. “The team never let its head down, and Sunday showed the pace we know we’re capable of. JM drove an outstanding race to finish fourth after a fantastic start, and Nicholas showed the speed was there, but a tough qualifying effort saw him stuck back in traffic. We’ll take the positives from Race Two and continue building as we head into the next round.”

Cusick Morgan Motorsports will now shift its focus to the next round of the 2026 INDY NXT by Firestone championship at Nashville Superspeedway as the team looks to carry the momentum from Sunday’s strong performance into the second half of the season.
