Round Seven of the 2026 INDY NXT by Firestone championship brought Cusick Morgan Motorsports (CMM) to the streets of downtown Detroit for one of the most demanding events on the calendar. Despite facing adversity throughout the race, both drivers delivered determined performances to secure top-ten finishes for the team.
After a strong qualifying session, Juan Manuel Correa lined up fourth on the starting grid for Sunday’s race around the tight and unforgiving Detroit street circuit. Correa’s race was disrupted early after receiving a penalty following a first-lap incident, dropping him down in the running order. Undeterred, the Ecuadorian-American driver showcased impressive pace throughout the afternoon, carving his way through the field and gaining positions over the remainder of the race. Correa ultimately crossed the line in ninth, salvaging a top-ten result through a resilient recovery drive.
Starting from 15th, Nicolas Stati capitalized on the opening-lap incidents to immediately gain valuable track position and establish himself inside the top-ten. The Australian driver continued to build momentum throughout the race, executing a clean and composed drive while navigating the challenges of the Detroit street course. Stati steadily advanced through the field and crossed the finish line in seventh position, securing the best INDY NXT result of his rookie season and career.
“Detroit is always a challenging race, and both drivers did an excellent job maximizing the opportunities that came their way,” explained Billy Morgan. “Juan Manuel showed tremendous determination to recover after the penalty, and Nicolas put together a very mature race to earn his best result of the season. It’s rewarding to see the progress the entire team continues to make.”
The double top-ten result marks one of the team’s strongest overall performances of the 2026 campaign and provides positive momentum heading into the next phase of the season.
Cusick Morgan Motorsports now shifts its focus to Round Eight of the 2026 INDY NXT by Firestone championship as the series heads to World Wide Technology Raceway for the first oval race of the season. The team looks to carry the momentum from Detroit into another important weekend of competition.
Located in Madison, Illinois, just outside of St. Louis, the 1.25-mile egg-shaped oval is a fan and driver favorite. The team gained valuable experience at the facility during a test session in April and will look to build on that knowledge this weekend.
The lineup will see a temporary change, as Nicolas Stati is unavailable for Round Eight due to prior commitments. In his place, Yuven Sundaramoorthy will make his return to the INDY NXT by Firestone grid aboard the #15 entry. Sundaramoorthy enjoyed success at World Wide Technology Raceway in 2024, earning a podium finish at the venue, and is eager to return to the series. He will join Juan Manuel Correa to complete the Cusick Morgan Motorsports lineup for the weekend. Stati is scheduled to return to the team for Round Nine at Road America.
This unique nature of oval competition means drivers will have limited track time to prepare. The weekend begins with Practice on Saturday at 2:00 PM ET, followed by Qualifying at 5:00 PM ET. Both sessions will air live on FS2. The green flag for the first oval race of the 2026 season is scheduled for Sunday at 4:30 PM ET, live on FS1.
